Estero Historical Society Announces 2023

The Estero Historical Society has finalized plans for its 2023- 24 season of events. As usual, the Saturday morning speaker series will continue as will the annual Holiday Open House and the annual Holiday Turkey Luncheon. Top-rated local presenter, Jacob Winge will be back to present four programs and for the first time ever, presenters from Koreshan State Park and the Naples Historical Society will headline programs.

The calendar is shaping up as follows:

Fri., Sat., Sun., Sept. 8 – 10 (times vary by day), Annual Assessment Fair held at the Estero Historical Society buildings located at the museum buildings, 9285 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. in Estero Park.

Sat. Sept. 16, 9:30 a.m., A History of the Koreshan Unity Settlement, presented in the historic Art Hall at Koreshan State Park located at the corner of Corkscrew Road and U.S. 41. The presenter will be Ron Westcott, lead docent at Koreshan State Park.

Ponce de Leon will be presented at Country Creek Country Club by local historian Jacob Winge.

Sat. Oct. 21, 9:30 a.m., Ponce de Leon, presented at Country Creek Country Club located at 21180 Country Club Drive, in Estero. The presenter is local historian Jacob Winge.

Sat. Nov. 18, 9:30 a.m., Historic Rehabilitation, presented at Country Creek Country Club located at 21180 Country Club Drive, in Estero. The presenter will be Elaine Reed, CEO of the Naples Historical Society.

Sat. Dec. 2, 11:30 a.m. Holiday Open House at the Estero Historical Society Cottage, 9285 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. in Estero Park. This is a great place to get your Christmas shopping done and find unique gifts for the people on your list.

Mon. Dec 11, 11:30 a.m. Annual Holiday Turkey Luncheon, with guest speaker Jim Weeks, presenting a History of the Weeks Fish Camp. Luncheon will be held at Country Creek Country Club, 21180 Country Club Drive in Estero.

Sat. Jan. 13, 9:30 a.m. Prehistoric Florida presented at Country Creek Country Club, 21180 Country Club Drive in Estero. The presenter is local historian Jacob Winge.

Sat. Feb. 10, 9:30 a.m. History of Naples Florida presented at Country Creek Country Club, 21180 Country Club Drive in Estero. The presenter is John Telischak, Director of Education at the Naples Historical Society.

Sat. Mar. 9, 9:30 a.m. Florida Cults & Communes presented at Country Creek Country Club, 21180 Country Club Drive in Estero. The presenter is local historian Jacob Winge.

Sat. Apr. 13, 9:30 a.m. Colonial & Early American Florida Shipwrecks presented by local historian Jacob Winge.

Note: All Saturday morning events at 9:30 a.m. include a continental breakfast and the events run about 90 minutes. Advance registration is needed to plan the room set-up and the breakfast service. Register at the Estero Historical Society website esterohistoricalsociety.com in the month prior to the event. Registration is $10 for EHS members and $15 for non-members.

The Annual Turkey Luncheon also requires advance registration at the EHS website noted above. Price is TBA and will be announced in October.

The Assessment Fair requires advance registration for a specific time slot. A donation of $15 per item for EHS members and $20 for non-members goes directly to the EHS building fund to help with the cost of maintenance of the two early 1900’s buildings that comprise the Historical Society. There is a maximum of three items per person. ¦
